More than 165 years of teaching, the School of Arts and Higher Studies of Design – EASD Valencia- is a public institution under the Generalitat Valenciana of Spanish Government.
EASD Valencia is a centre that offers qualified education in the diverse areas of Design, Creation and Arts & Crafts. Along its years of history, the School has put into practice many pedagogical methods, always focused on the direct and practical teaching of workshops. A large number of successful professional designers have been formed in its classrooms. The teachers are involved in a responsible way of teaching related to the social, productive and cultural environment.

HOMWO design and brand conceptualization team is composed by professional designers all belonging to EASD Valencia.

HOMWO is an innovative company born to transmit through its products and services the contemporary design concept and extraordinary warmth of Mediterranean lands. We love what we do. It’s who we are. As a Spanish and Chinese team working side by side, we aspire for the desig- ned lifestyle: a place where life, work and inspiration are all equal and inte- grated organically.

Our goal is to create stylish products that are functional for our home life. Solutions that are exploratory, educational and inspirational. Creative that is conceptually interesting and visually stunning. We design with the belief that process and collaboration should be as exciting and fun as the end result.

From home life research to in store products

Life at home can be very different for our customers around the world. But some things are the same: home is a place to sleep, eat and store things. Through extensive research including visiting homes and interviewing customers we discover even more about how people live, and some of the findings are published in our “Life at home” report.

Last year we learned that the bedroom is the place where we contemplate our day and recharge for the next. And the bathroom can be a hectic crossroads; often meeting many different needs within one household. These are important spaces in every home, no matter how big or small, or where in the world.

For us, growth is closely linked to understanding people’s lives at home. We improve our knowledge with consumer research and by visiting customers in their homes to see how they live. These insights are used to improve our range and services, and to decide on long-term investments in sustainable growth.

From the Depth

In HOMWO we like to observe changes in the habitat and identify major trends in design within the household, also evaluate the marketplace and interpret the sociocultural environment. Thus we have a more global view, which allows wor- king with appropriate information regarding changes that occur in the environment.

Later we translate all this information into valuable information to apply in our design.

Suppliers like Friends

We began learning about the production of furniture years ago. We had just begun to design our own furniture and needed to learn how to match the possibilities of the supplier with the needs of the customer. Bringing the two closer together was how we would keep prices low.

Since then we have continued to apply these methods and work with suppliers right on the factory floor.

We work really close to our suppliers to reach the best product solution.

WE LOVE LED

Today’s LED light bulbs are showcasing some bright ideas. Manufactures today are designing household LED bulbs that have the potential to last for decades, and when combined with their decreasing sticker price, they’ve become more affordable and popular than ever. However, the growing popularity of the LED bulb cannot simply be credited to new technology. Thanks to newly enacted efficiency standards, traditional incandescent bulbs have been phased out in favour of more efficient, environmentally-friendly alternatives.

Materials

When we talk about the materials in the manufacture of furniture, there is a wide range of materials over time, trends and the development of technology has changed. The choice of material depends largely on the type of furniture, which is logical. Despite the changes over time and still is the most commonly used material – wood, no matter whether it is a plate of furniture or any other furniture that contains only some parts made of wood.

Bamboo

Bamboo has more than a thousand species, grows mostly in the tropics and can be up to 30 metres tall. Strong and lightweight, bamboo can be used to create a hardwood effect. It grows faster than wood and does not need farming.

Cotton

Today, the world uses more cotton than any other fibre. Cotton is a part of our daily lives from the time we dry our faces on a soft cotton towel in the morning until we slide between fresh cotton sheets at night. It has hundreds of uses, from blue jeans to shoe strings.

Natural fibres

A fast-growing plant, water hyacinth is a durable and highly renewable material we use to make hand-woven products like baskets. And because it is clogging up waterways in South East Asia, using it this way benefits both people and biodiversity.

Recycled PET

PET plastic can be melted down and used to make other products. An old plastic bottle is transformed into pellets, then into a usable textile. This gives plastic another life and reduces waste. It also creates a material that’s much more comfortable than the name might suggest.

Wood

There’s plenty of it, it’s relatively cheap, it’s environmentally friendly, it looks great, it’s warm and cosy, it’s super-strong, it lasts hundreds or even thousands of years, and you can use it for everything from building bridges to making paper or heating your home. It’s wood and we love it!

Our Designers

Chinese and Spanish both compose HOMWO design team. The chance to work side by side takes the best from each culture. They are all dedicated to urban life and functionality but embrace their own background, ideas and approaches. This is reflected in HOMWO eclectic style, a mix of different influences well understood by the audience. Western back- ground and Chinese vision have joined together to reach HOMWO product philosophy. HOMWO attends to and ensu- res quality to distinguish itself from others an to come out as a powerful brand.

The mean philosophy is to transform people’s interaction with everyday objects by creating small moments in everyday life. Our designers like to support the idea of getting more out of life. When creating multifunctional pieces, the challenge is to maintain the style and ‘the simple is best’ philosophy. The simplest, most modest look is by far the most complicated thing to achieve.

The Process

What is the importance of process in product development? We have processes so that we can identify and test opportunities to improve how and why we do things that lead to the delivery of an end state. This applies to anything in life, not just in product development.

Absent process, success is simply a matter of luck, and identifying the factors within chaos that led to a success is difficult if not impossible. Of course, in most places, you start with chaos and develop an order out of what works and what doesn’t. This order is called “process”.

From Beginning to End

The task of developing outstanding new products usually becomes an adventure. Great products are not simply designed, but instead they evolve over time through countless hours of research, analysis, design studies, engineering and prototyping efforts, and finally, testing, modifying, and re-testing until the design has been perfected.

Development is normally done by a project team qualified with diverse skills in marketing, industrial design, mechanical and electronic engineering, manufacturing processes and materials, tool-making, packaging design, graphic art, and project management. Just to name the primary areas of expertise. As a general rule, the cost of a development effort is a factor of the number of people involved and the time required to nurture the initial concept into a fully refined product.

SCM

Supply Chain Management is the oversight of materials, information, and finances as they move in a process from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer. Supply chain management involves coordinating and integrating these flows both within and among companies.

They are the interlocutor between designers and factories, all together; control every aspect of each product, from idea to your home.
